Heguang Cloud 3D vision empowers intelligent grasping in outdoor scenarios

Helping robotic arms operate 15 m truck bodies with precision

Project background

The customer operates heavy manipulators and cranes in open yards. Strong lighting, long range, and occlusions challenged 2D-only perception. Safety interlocks required reliable 3D cues at production cadence.

Outdoor grasping conditions and sensor layout

The customer builds robotic automation for indoor pallet depalletizing and small-part picking. Extending the same stack to outdoor, 15 m truck bodies broke classic depth-camera limits:

  • Limited range: mainstream depth cameras rarely cover a 15 m bed end-to-end;
  • Lighting sensitivity: outdoor glare and backlight destabilize depth;
  • Complex structure: ribs, apertures, and cargo layout need reliable 3D context.

HEGANG YUNCHANG approach

Camera + LiDAR fusion: HEGANG YUNCHANG integrates dense LiDAR mapping with the customer’s image recognition and 3D detection so the stack works at yard scale and high dynamics.

Point cloud and model reconstruction

Key technical highlights:

  1. Long-range sensing: HEGANG YUNCHANG 2D/3D LiDAR reaches up to about 80 m—enough for a full truck body scan.
  2. Lighting robustness: LiDAR is insensitive to sun, shadow, rain, and snow for stable outdoor runs.
  3. 3D modeling + bed structure: detects cargo and bed boundaries to cut collision risk for manipulators.
  4. Fusion with vision: existing AI models map into the LiDAR frame for precise 6-DoF targets.
  5. Modular retrofit: quick field fit without replacing the customer’s algorithm framework.

Application value

Application value overview

With HEGANG YUNCHANG fusion perception deployed, the customer’s manipulators gained:

  • Higher grasp success and takt with less manual teach-in
  • More stable all-weather operation and less downtime
  • Traceable data for process tuning and post-mortems

Closing: tight coupling of 3D perception to takt time is the backbone for outdoor automation; multi-station orchestration and remote ops can follow.

Closing

As automation moves outdoors, a single modality is no longer enough. HEGANG YUNCHANG fuses LiDAR and vision so arms not only “see” but pick accurately and avoid collisions.
